Urban Chicken Housing
The HortiCoop is a flat-packable, modular urban chicken coop and gardening system that is inspired by the principles of Permculture. The system is composed of two separate garden beds, and the chicken coop. The coop is situated on top of one of the garden beds and acts as a nitrogen delivery system for the soil. Every year after the growing season is over, the user moves the coop to the other garden bed, where the chickens are able to scratch and forage the remaining plant material. The previous garden bed would be subsequently packed with nutrients for the next planting season, completing the cycle.
This project won the 2015 Wood Co-op and Forestry Innovation Graduation Award.
